The Power of an Encouraging Voice

Most of us imagine that courage arrives from somewhere deep inside. But if you think about it, many of the moments when we found our strength actually began with someone else's words. A friend who simply said, "I've got your back." Or maybe a colleague who noticed something you were trying hard not to show. We all have days when life feels just a little heavier than usual. The presentation doesn't go as planned. A project refuses to cooperate. The inbox keeps growing. The report disappears because technology has a mind of its own. Nothing catastrophic, yet somehow our confidence has slipped by a few inches. And then something remarkable happens. Someone smiles. Someone notices. Someone says a few kind words. Not because they have a solution. Not because they can fix the problem. Simply because they chose encouragement over indifference. Strangely, the problem often remains exactly the same. But we don't. Sometimes, the simple presence or encouragement of another human being can reduce stress and help us think more clearly. You may never know what battle a coworker is quietly fighting. You may never discover how close someone was to giving up on an idea. Or how much they needed to hear, "You're doing better than you think." Encouragement is one of the few gifts that costs nothing, takes less than a minute, and is often remembered for years. So the next time you see someone looking out of sorts, maybe a good gesture is to lend them an ear. Maybe they don't need advice. Maybe they don't need solutions. Maybe they simply need someone to believe in them for a moment. Did someone ever give you a few words of encouragement that stayed with you far longer than they probably ever imagined? Until tomorrow, Bob

My grandmother always said, 'Take one step at a time.' I still live by those words.
